Colorado Birder

I'm a Colorado Birder! Are you? (Home of the "Nunn Guy" and NunnCAM)

My daughter wants to get a tatoo of an ouzel feather.
Does anyone know where she could find a
picture of an ouzel feather?

I always say "Google is your friend!"... and it really can be! Go to Google, click "Images" and type in your search topic. The result will be pages and pages of images of said topic! It's way cool...especially for birds; lots of different images of a specific bird is a neat way to 'see' how it might look. To me it's better than a drawing in a book!

Yours is an unusual question; I hope Google Images works for you! I've never had so few hits...go figure.

I don't know what makes an ouzel feather an ouzel feather but only got about 250 hits (I'm absolutely shocked). Instead I Googled 'Feather Detail' and got 1000 times the hits. Try different ways to ask your question...

Good luck!

Thank you Beverly!
I have used google all these years
and never realized I could click on Images
first when I am looking for pictures!
I passed this info along to my daughter
but she has been using google images all along
and didn't know that I didn't know about it.
LOL
But anyway, in the process of looking for ouzels
she found the writings of John Muir and loved
the chapter he wrote about ouzels.

LOL That was funny; glad I could help.

I had no idea what an ouzel was...but now know that Cinclus Mexicanus is also known as Ouzel, Water Thrush and American Dipper...which is even funnier because I saw my first Water Thrush about a month or so ago on a birding walk with friends. At the time, I had no idea I was looking at an American Dipper, which I've seen several times! So I learned something too...as a result of going back and reading the John Muir article, because like your daughter, I really enjoy his writing.

So... now you ought to try Googling ALL the names the bird enjoys and see what you find!

LOL Have fun!

Zoe, in that you and yours seemed to enjoy J. Muir as much as I do; you might enjoy his complete chapter (published on the Sierra Club site) regarding the little bird. I found it while doing some research for an article I've decided to write about the Ouzel, for my little blog. I just love words and that one is facinating to me...and the fact that the little bird has so many names.

But I'm curious, I find nothing spectacular about it's feathers and wonder what about them would incline your daughter to want its image on her body?

Thanks again

Hi Beverly,
I think my daughter wanted an ouzel feather
simply because it represented the wonderful
characteristic of the ouzel...how it sings
no matter what the weather.
She sings my Ouzel Song with me.
Do you read music?
I can email you the sheet music
then you can sing the Ouzel Song too!
LOL
Anyway, I think she did read the whole chapter
and is going to borrow the book from her neighbor.
Ouzels usually hang out at Chasteen's Grove
west of Loveland so I will be taking her and
my grandchildren there soon so they can meet the ouzel.
Love, Zoe
